Wood versus Plastic Pallets

Choosing between wood and plastic pallets may not seem like an important decision, but the reality is that you do need to put some thought into it because the wrong choice can affect your business. Wood Pallets

One of the biggest advantages of this option is that they are cost-effective and very easy to repair. They are also better for the environment because they can be recycled, so those who want an option that is environmentally friendly should consider wooden pallets over plastic ones. Most wooden pallets can be repaired through basic handyman skills and the process is not challenging or difficult in any way. Another big advantage is that products shift a lot less while on wooden pallets when compared to plastic ones, and wood can generally hold more items because of its ability to carry more weight.

The disadvantage of this option is that wood is a porous surface, meaning it is highly susceptible to an unknown substance. Pallets need to be properly stored in a dry environment  to minimize the chances of moisture related issues.

Plastic Pallets

One of the biggest advantages of this option is the durability aspect and plastic pallets are extremely durable and have a very long lifespan. This material is not porous, so you would never have to worry about pests or humidity. They are also very easy to move because they are lighter than wood and this means they are cheaper to ship as well. While plastic pallets are less eco-friendly than wood, most of them can be recycled.

Cost is one of the biggest disadvantages of this option as plastic pallets cost a lot more when compared to wood. Repairing them is also very difficult and plastic pallets often have to be replaced when broken because quick fixes simply will not do. They have a lower weight limit compared to wood pallets and because their surface is smooth, it is more likely that products will slide or shift while in transit.
